Albert "Danny" Hudgins

Enfield – Albert “Danny” Hudgins, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.  Born in Nash County, NC on March 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Albert Earnest Hudgins and Sallie Melton Hudgins.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Hudgins Edwards

A retired teacher, Danny taught and coached both baseball and basketball for North Hampton County, Enfield Academy, and Halifax County school systems until his retirement.  After he retired, he went to work as a dispatcher for North State Motor Lines and CargoCare Transportation Company.  In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and good friend to many, Danny will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Danny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret “Dean” Hardee Hudgins; his son, William “Bill” Hudgins (Kitty); his daughters, Mary Young (Jim) and Sara Hudgins (Scott); his grandchildren, Hampton Young, Mackenzie Young, Kate Hudgins, and Avery Castle; his sister, Mary Hudgins Hardee (James); his special friend, Greg Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Danny’s life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Craig Gaither officiating.  Burial will follow the service at the Bennett Family Farm, 705 Hardee Road, Enfield, NC 27823.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
