RED OAK – Abigail “Abbie” Lynn Guzman, age 16, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on July 26, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Carmen Guzman.
Abbie had a deep love for animals and found a special sense of peace in being around them, especially horses. From the age of eight, horseback riding became more than a hobby, it became a place where she felt at home, often saying that horses brought her peace. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and had a special love for ice cream, Hot Pockets, and hush puppies from Smithfield’s. One of her favorite traditions at horse shows involved the Sisters ice cream truck, which became a source of sweet treats and cherished memories, with loved ones often joking that Abbie and her momma had personally funded all of their vendor fees through her loyal support and frequent visits. Abbie also shared a uniquely special bond with her brother, Brayden, a relationship marked by a connection that often needed no words at all. Through a simple look or change in tone, the two seemed to understand one another in a way only siblings with a deep and genuine love can. Their bond was filled with closeness, laughter, and a love that will never be separated. Abbie embraced life with a fearless and adventurous spirit, willing to try just about anything that came her way, always determined to give it her very best. Above all, she loved the Lord, and her faith was a meaningful part of who she was, reflected in the way she lived, loved, and cared for those around her.
Abbie is survived by her parents, Jeremy Edward Guzman and Jessica Lynn Burgess Guzman; her brother, Brayden Guzman; her, maternal grandparents, Bruce and Naomi Burgess; her canine companions, Boone and Biscuit “The King of the house”; her steadfast companion, Saga; and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other animals.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Abbie’s life will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Redeemer Church, 940 N. Wesleyan Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Dr. Dayton Hartman officiating. Burial will follow at Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM prior to the service at the church.
In true Abbie fashion, guests are encouraged to come dressed comfortably and easygoing. If you would like, feel free to embrace her love for the Western style she enjoyed so much.
