William Warren Flora

William Warren Flora, Jr., 82, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 17, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born in Rocky Mount, NC on August 8, 1930. Warren served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, and later returned to Rocky Mount. He joined Binswanger Glass Company as contract manager in the mid-1960s. Transferring first to Florence, SC and then to Norfolk, VA, Warren served as manager of Binswanger Glass Company. While in the Norfolk area, he served as President of the Tidewater Area Subcontractors Association. In 1974, he returned once again to his hometown of Rocky Mount where he helped to establish and serve as President of Glass, Incorporated. In 1977, he and his two sons established Floras Glass and Mirror Company, Incorporated. This business continues today under the leadership of his sons, Mike and Pat Flora, and his grandson, Chris Flora. While in Rocky Mount, he was a member of Arlington Baptist Church (formerly known as Arlington Street Baptist) where he served in many areas of ministry including Sunday School teacher, deacon, and honorary deacon. In the Rocky Mount community, Warren was a member and past president of the Rocky Mount Evening Lion's Club. Retiring in 1985, Warren enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his beach home in Atlantic Beach, NC. He spent many leisure hours painting, boating, and playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. William Warren Flora, Sr. and Mrs. Alma Strickland Flora of Rocky Mount. Warren is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Joyner Flora, of Rocky Mount, a son, Michael Warren Flora and wife, Ella Humphrey Flora, of Red Oak, NC, another son, William Patrick Flora and wife, Brenda Leigh Flora, of Rocky Mount, and a daughter, Kimberly Flora Shields and husband, Bradford Leon Shields, of Boone, NC. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michelle Flora Ams and husband, Joey Alan Ams, Christopher Michael Flora and wife, Lea Anne Williams Flora, all of Nashville, NC, Lisa Flora Miolla and husband, Joe Louis Miolla, of Norfolk, VA, Bradford Leon Shields, Jr. and wife, Danielle Martin Shields, of Surprise, AZ, Sarah Shields Farmer and husband, Jeffrey Alan Farmer, of Charlotte, NC, Meredith Joy Shields of Boone, NC, and Cameron Patrick Flora, of Rocky Mount. Great-grandchildren are Cooper Jackson Ams and Gabriella Rose Ams, of Nashville, NC, Ashleigh Morgan Miolla, of Norfolk, VA, Peyton Michael Flora and Chason Bratten Flora, of Nashville, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Flora Hobgood and husband, William Alton Hobgood, of Littleton, NC, his brother-in-law, William Rufus Joyner and wife, Gail Casey Joyner, of Rocky Mount as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 North Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with the Reverend Tim Lowry and Reverend Horace Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount, NC. Visitation will be held Friday evening, December 21, 2012 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.   12. As we make our journey throu this life, death is our final stop. The Bible gives us comfort in our time of grief. Even thr perfect man, Jesus Christ, Gave way to tears.
