William Robert “Bob” Jones

February 9, 1945 ~ January 29, 2022

William Robert "Bob" Jones was born on February 9th, 1945. On January 29, 2022, at age 76, Bob was welcomed into his eternal home with the words "well done thy good and faithful servant". Bob is survived by Linda Bishop Jones, the love of his life and devoted wife of 52 years; his daughter-in-"love" Paige Edwards, her husband Patrick Edwards, their three children, Boyd, Ida Belle, and Fielding Edwards; his three brothers- "Ronnie", "Mike", and "Bill" Jones, with their families; his Aunt Cindy Parker; brother-in-law, Oris Bishop, sister-in-law, Celia Whitehead, with their families; many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews; as well as his dedicated prayer group partners of more than 30 years, countless friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Those there to welcome Bob into Heaven, include his beloved son and best buddy, Ethan Robert Jones; his father, Jack Jones; his mother, Celia Jones; and his mother-in-law, Mattie Bishop. Bob leaves us with a legacy of unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus, utmost integrity, loyal service within the church, exceptional mentoring, intentional discipleship, constant devotion to family, extraordinary hard work, but most of all genuine LOVE. Bob went through life with a gentle, quiet, and humble spirit. When Bob spoke, his words were well thought-out, pleasing to Jesus, and heartfelt. Bob had devotion, not only to his faith, family, friends, and church, but also to his country. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Bob served in two deployments overseas and was involved in various missions with the Special Forces, during Vietnam. During his service, Bob endured many tragedies and hardships, which allowed him to witness God's deliverances. Bob experienced the greatness, provision, and sufficiency of God many times through his life, but none so much as following the tragic loss of his only child, Ethan, in an industrial accident. In all his trials and tragedies, Bob's faith in God stood unshaken, with his faithful wife, Linda, another steadfast believer, at his side. Bob was an inspiration to all, an excellent husband, the best big brother, an awesome Gramps to his grandchildren, a true friend, and a role model, if ever there was one. Many have been blessed to know him and now ache with a hole in our hearts, at his parting; yet, we are all pleased, that he is now in the presence of his Savior and is reunited with his precious son, Ethan, and his loved ones who have gone before him. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022, at Englewood Baptist Church, his home church, 1350 S. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The visitation will be held from 1:00-1:45 pm, with memorial services officiated by Dr. Chris Aiken at 2:00 pm, and followed by a graveside service at Red Oak Baptist Cemetery. The family appreciates your outpouring of love for our family. Englewood Baptist Church has a livestream link for those unable to attend: https://englewoodbaptist.com/homegoing/ Thank you so much for helping us get this posted. If you have any questions, please let us know. Instead of flowers, Bob would hope that you would tell someone EACH DAY about Jesus and God's goodness (even in the tragedies, as God did give His only Son on the Cross for our Salvation); mentor a young person in Jesus' name; be intentional in showing acts of kindness to all, especially to strangers; and never cease to show those around you just how much you love them. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting the need for social distancing and wearing of masks, due to the health concerns faced around our nation at this time. 16. My heart and prayers go out to Linda during this time. When I first met Bob & Linda they were leading the singles ministry at EBC. We are all better for knowing Bob and he will be miss by all of us.

  20. My deepest love to Mrs. Linda and the Jones family. Mr. Bob was one of the greatest, kindest, loving, God filled man I’ve ever known. I am so grateful to have spent so much of my life with him and Mrs. Linda. I wished Covid had not put an end to our weekly visits but I’m blessed to have had 11 years full of love and laughter in your home. Every moment was precious and meant more than anything this world could offer. Zoie and I will never forget him and Zachary will continue to honor him with ever baseball game he plays. As he has seemed to acquire the nickname Mr. Bob since adding that to the back of his pink cancer jersey. I’m so glad we were able to honor him in that way before his promotion. With much love, Amy, Zoie & Zachary
