He is survived by sisters Doris Webb, Elm City, NC; Judy Sutton, Rocky Mount, NC; and brothers Jack Sharpe (Barbara), Rocky Mount, NC; Boyd Sharpe (Rita), Ellenboro, NC; Milton Sharpe (Diane), Rocky Mount, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, and many close friends. The family would like to especially thank Mindy Holloman and Hyman Jones for their kindness and care of Billy. His departure was preceded by his parents Thomas Farmer Sharpe and Ida Edwards Sharpe; brothers Alton Sharpe, Robert Sharpe, Tommy Sharpe, Pete Sharpe, and Grady Sharpe. Billy was a unique character. His wit and wisdom was a source of humor and / or enlightenment to all who knew him. According to Billy, "I know everything there is to know about everything, and what I don't know ain't worth knowing." Once you met him, he left a lasting impression. He was born February 28, 1935, at home on the farm in Nash County. Billy was raised during the hard years of the Great Depression and worked long, hard hours on the family farm. He served honorably in the North Carolina National Guard. Billy was a farmer and entrepreneur. His lasting legacy, apart from fond memories in the hearts of family and friends, would be his generous nature. He is also remembered by the scale replica lighthouses and fiberglass figures he built. Billy served as Mayor and Commissioner of the Town of Sharpsburg. He was the last Sharpe living in Sharpsburg, the family's namesake town. Billy's memorial service will be conducted Sunday, May 3, 2015, at 3:00 P. M. by Elder Autry Pridgen at Mill Branch Primitive Baptist Church on Mill Branch Road, Sharpsburg, NC. His ashes will be scattered at home on the farm in Nash County at a later date. So Billy, here's to you: "We love you, we will never forget you, and we long to laugh with you again. In your famous departing words; ‘I'll check ya later.' " Donations can be made in Billy's name to a charity of your choice.
