ENFIELD - Virginia Sykes Aycock, age 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Born in Nash County on February 27, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Charles Barrett Sykes and Mary Alice Jones Sykes. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, David Lee Aycock, her brother Charles Braxton Sykes, brother Revil Lee Sykes, and sister Ruby Mae Sykes Summerlin, and a very special friend, Lynwood Stancil.
Virginia retired from owning a Daycare Business in her home for about 20 years. She loved each and every one as if they were her own. Prior to keeping children, she worked at Whitehead Pharmacy in Enfield, NC and as a seamstress in Whitakers, NC. She had a great love for baking and cooking; which everyone around Enfield loved. She enjoyed baking any kind of goodies, cakes, muffins, cookies, breads, you name it; she had it ready for the farmers market in Roanoke Rapids every year or they would be calling to come see her at home. Virginia also enjoyed baking for the Enfield Fire Departments annual chicken plate sales each year. Virginia was a member of Eden United Methodist Church. Her greatest gift was her big heart, a loving caring wife, mother, sister, friend, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Lisa Kay Aycock of Enfield; her sons, David "Dave" Earl Aycock of Enfield, and Patrick "Neil" Aycock (Penny) of Enfield. Her grandchildren, David Christopher "Chris" Aycock, Austin "Cooper" Aycock, Kypton Aycock, and Caryn Elisabeth Aycock, Her great-grandson, Joshua Allen Keeter; her brothers Samuel Wright "S.W." Sykes (Janice) of Hampton, VA; Edward "Stewart" Sykes (Ann) of Whitakers, NC; William Hal "Butch" Sykes of Hampton, VA; Tony Madison Sykes of Rocky Mount, NC; her sisters, Ruth Ella Bowden of Enfield, NC; Brenda Kaye Rector (Roy) of Soddy Daisy, TN; Alice Ann Crickmore (Steve) of Rocky Mount, NC; many nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Linda Stancil of Benson, NC.
