Virginia Barden Morton

June 10, 1927 ~ January 9, 2018

ROCKY MOUNT - Virginia Barden Morton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. She was born in Johnston County, NC to the late Walter Leon Barden and Clyde Smith Barden. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jesse C. Morton; brother, William L. Barden; sister, Faye B. Horton; uncle, T. C. Robbins; aunt, Alma Robbins; and beloved dog, Adam Riley Morton. Virginia was a faithful and dedicated member of First Christian Church of Rocky Mount for over 73 years. She served on numerous committees and held positions which included Elder Emeritus, Stephen's Ministry, Lifetime Ministry of Visitation, Sunday School Teacher, Christian Youth Fellowship Director, Building Committee, and Search Committee. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Virginia leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Jessica Jane Morton of Rocky Mount and Elizabeth P. "Liz" Morton of Reston, VA. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Jessica "Leigh" Roche and husband, Scott, of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren, Kalila, Killian, and Kennis Roche; sister-in-law, Dorothy E. Barden of Cary; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:30 PM at First Christian Church of Rocky Mount, 1101 West Haven Blvd., Rocky Mount with the Pastor Michael McHarg and Dr. John Browning officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Rocky Mount, 1101 West Haven Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27803 or Nash Hospice and Palliative Care, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
