Vann “Boot” Ruffin Collie

Vann Ruffin “Boot” Collie, age 68 passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 after battling a long term illness. Born June 01, 1943 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Robert Joseph Collie and Hazel Strickland Collie. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James Russell “Cullen” Collie, Charles Orlando Collie, and Jimmy Earl Collie; sister, Joyce Ann Cowan; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Adams; nephews, Chris Eugene Collie and Jacob Lynn Collie; and his longtime companion, Lance, his Border Collie. Boot was a longtime employee of Inco, Inc. until he became disabled in 1998. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Turner Collie; children, Judith Carol Collie of Rocky Mount, Sandra Jeanette Lloyd (Ronnie) of Rocky Mount, Christopher Joel Collie (Kim) of Nashville; grandchildren, Stephen Michael Howell of Rocky Mount , Jessica Carol Howell of Rocky Mount, Michelle Brooke Viverette (John) of Sharpsburg, Joseph Daniel Lloyd of Rocky Mount, Samuel Thomas Lloyd of Rocky Mount, and MacKenzie Leigh Collie of Nashville; and great-grandchildren, Landon Michael Howell, Peyton Michelle Cartledge, and Lillian Grace Howell. He will also be remembered by his brothers, Robert Clayton Collie (Mary Lee) of Henderson and Anthony Lane Collie of Spring Hope; sister-in-law, Dorothy Parker Collie (Charles); and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives 7:00pm to 8:30pm Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home. A service to remember Boot will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Daniel Bran and Elder Dwight Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to NASH - Nash Autism Seeking Hope, 5441 West Mount Drive, Nashville NC 27856 in honor of two of his grandchildren.   1. Papa was the best, i am his great granddaughter and even tho i was so young when he past we were very close and had a great bond, i miss him so much. I remember when he was sick he would lay on the bed and i would lay beside him and watch tv with him. I wouldnt be home and he would tell mammy to come get me bc he missed me. We rode the golf cart all the time and i just miss him and cant wait untill i get to see him again
