Thelma Eatmon Bell

Thelma Eatmon Bell, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2013. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1920. She was one of nine children born to Earnest and Nannie Eatmon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Russell Bell; three sisters and five brothers. Thelma was raised on a farm in Nash County and graduated from Bailey High School. She attended cosmetology school in Wilson and was a hairdresser and owner of Thelmas Beauty Shop in Rocky Mount for 34 years. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church. Thelma enjoyed sewing, reading her Bible, cooking and baking pies and cakes. Left to cherish her memories, her two daughters, Ellen Johnson (Ronnie) of Rocky Mount and Jean Bell also of Rocky Mount; four grandchildren, Wayne Johnson (Heather) of Wilson, Angie Starkweather (Kevin) of Rocky Mount, Amy D. Harvey (Mike) of Rocky Mount and Traci OConney (Al) of Nashville; five great-grandchildren, Brittany Jones, Travis Starkweather, Garrett and Emma Kate Johnson, and Ciara OConney; brother-in-law, Jesse Bell of California; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friend at Spring Arbor Assisted Living, Helen Kidd. The family would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor and United Hospice for showing her such gentle kindness over the past few weeks. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7:00-8:30pm on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home. A service to honor Thelma will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Pridgen and Mr. Kenneth Mullen officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.
