ROCKY MOUNT – Sylvia Hale Cobb, age 76, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on July 9, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Howard Leroy Hale and Wilkie Hardy Hale. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Sidney Beach; her sister-in-law, Lydia Hale; and her granddaughter, Heather Williams.
Sylvia loved her gospel music, playing the piano, her horses, working with the children at school, her family, Lake Gaston, her many special friends, and Duke basketball.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 32 years, Steven Douglas Cobb; her stepdaughter, Candy Cobb; her step grandson, Michael Tyson; Steve’s sister, Shirley Joyner (Clark); her son, Duane Williams (Ekaterina); her grandson, Henry Williams; her granddaughter, Ivey Larkin Williams; her step grandson, Christopher Alexander Cady; her daughter-in-law, Jessica Williams; her son, John Williams (Brandy), her grandson, John Hall; her daughter, Tambre Thomas (Gerald); her granddaughter, Cameron Ayscue (Travis); Holland Joyner (Trevor); her daughter, Kristy Harper (Wade); her grandson, Jake Harper; her brothers, Andrew Hale (Bonnie) and Howard “PeeWee” Hale; her sister-in-law, Frances Beach: special friends in Sylvia’s life, Gloria Davis-care taker, Robin and Leon Bone; her canine companion, Sassy; several great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Alford Tyson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
