Susan Richardson Daley

February 1, 1943 ~ December 30, 2023

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS – Susan Richardson Daley, age 80, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on February 1, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Charles Wilson Richardson and Helen Loraine Fowler Richardson. A woman of great faith, Susan was a member of Grace Covenant Church of Rocky Mount and currently Colonial Presbyterian Church of Overland Park, Kansas. Susan graduated from Peace College in Raleigh in 1963, married and began working at UNC as a secretary while Mark completed his senior year. Susan’s heart desire was to start a family and be a mother. Upon finding out that she was pregnant, she began to search for the larger meaning of life and how she could teach her first child. Her brother-in-law, Jerry Daley, began sending Christian books and testimonies which she consumed, eager to find the deeper meaning of life. After the birth of her son, Mark III, she visited Jerry and Nan in California where he was stationed in the Air Force as a pilot. Within hours of that visit, she had openly invited the gift of salvation from the Lord Jesus Christ and experienced a visitation of the Holy Spirit. Susan was a new creation. It totally changed the trajectory of her life. She grew deeper and deeper in her faith and relationship with The Lord. Susan is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hugh Mark Daley, Jr.; her children, Hugh Mark Daley, III, Charles David Daley, and John Michael Daley; her brothers, Jack Wilson Richardson and James Fowler Richardson; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Smith`s Pavilion of Dortches, 3713 N Halifax Rd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with her son, Mark Daley, III officiating. She instructed this to be a very informal event where family and friends could share, hug, and express their remembrance of her together. Susan further instructed that family and a few long-term friends, by invite, stay for lunch to have time to be together. A private family burial will be held at Pineview Cemetery at a later time. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Susan’s memory to Freedom Farm Ministries, PO Box 153, Boone, NC 28607. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
