Susan Cobb Shuff

April 6, 1946 ~ March 27, 2023

ROCKY MOUNT – Susan Cobb Shuff, age 76, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on April 6, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Robert Vernon Cobb and Bessie Rudd Smith Cobb. Susan is survived by her husband of 42 years, Landon “Lanny” Earle Shuff, Jr.; son, Landon Earle Shuff, III of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Mary Clarke Shuff Bourgeois and husband, John, of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Lionel “Leo” John Bourgeois, Mary Landon Elizabeth Bourgeois, and George Meriwether Bourgeois; her sisters, Jeanie Cobb Dickens and husband, Frederick, Robbie Leigh Cobb, and Elizabeth “Beth” Cobb Pearce. Before children, Susan worked as a legal secretary at Poyner and Spruill Law Offices. She was a loving and faithful wife and a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. In every occasion, she was a lady of understated grace and strength and had a delightful sense of humor. At any hour of the night, Susan was always the perfect company for other night owls and more than anything, she loved to talk to anyone about anything. A Graveside Service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Pineview Cemetery with her son-in-law, Rev. John Bourgeois and Rev. David Joyner officiating. A reception will follow at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Nash UNC Health Care and WakeMed Raleigh for their heroic efforts on Susan’s behalf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Susan’s memory to PBS TV which brought her many hours of enjoyment.
