April 6, 1938 ~ February 27, 2022

Shirley Padgett DeBruhl of Rocky Mount, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 27th, at the age of 83. Shirley was born on April 6th, 1938 in Tarboro, NC to Claude and Ruthie Padgett. Shirley's impact on her community, neighbors, church, and friends was undoubtedly immense, but her true legacy was her family. Known by those closest to her as "Nana", she was beloved and treasured by all those around her. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, preparing meals, giving back to others in her community. She raised a daughter, Karen Hammond, and son Kevin DeBruhl, serving as a steadfast example of dedicated service to others. Most of all, she was a loving wife to her forever best friend, Jim DeBruhl, life partner of 56 years. Shirley had a beautiful smile and an incredible, infectious laugh that filled the room. She had an unwavering faith in God and lived that faith with a servants heart. She could often be found in the kitchen preparing holiday meals and treats to share with all those she loved. She was the first one to offer love, a helping hand, or words of wisdom, to those who were blessed by her presence. She will be deeply missed by those who continue uplifting her legacy here on earth while she is welcomed into The Kingdom of heaven. Shirley is survived by her son, Kevin DeBruhl of Rocky Mount, NC & her daughter, Karen Hammond and her husband Ken Hammond of Pittsboro, NC; her granddaughter, Jessica McNulty and her husband Stephen McNulty of Cary, NC and her great-granddaughter, Eleanor McNulty; her grandson, William "Bishop" Saunders and his wife Morgan Saunders of Charlotte, NC.
