Ruth "Elaine" Hardy Griffin

ROCKY MOUNT – Ruth “Elaine” Hardy Griffin, age 90, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Nash County, NC on October 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John Keeling Hardy and Mildred Elizabeth Lewis Hardy. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Louis “Jack” Griffin; her brothers and sisters-in law, John Lewis Hardy (Carolyn) and Robert Keeling “Boot” Hardy (Betty Anne). Elaine was a graduate of Rocky Mount High School and attended nursing school at Rex Hospital. She and Jack were active members of First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Elaine leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, John Griffin (Phyllis), of Rocky Mount, and Doug Griffin (Robin), of Rocky Mount; her sister, Dee Ann Hardy Smith (Ben Gammons); her grandchildren, Kelly Schoch (Bryan), of Wake Forest, Ashley Holland (Shawn), of Red Oak, Emilie Southard (Chris), of Willow Spring, and Isaac Griffin and fiancée, Molly Campbell, of Raleigh; her great-grandchildren, Chase Schoch, Tyson Holland, Jacob Schoch, Kiley Holland, Hannah Holland, Lacie Southard, Kate Southard, and Brooke Southard; her nephews and nieces, Lewis Hardy (Janet), of Winston-Salem, Laura Earp (David), Carol Radford (Mike), of Destin, FL, and Keeling Hardy of Rocky Mount. A Graveside Service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Tim Griffin officiating. The family will be available to receive friends and relatives immediately following the graveside service.
