Russell W. Willett, Jr., age 74, passed away on September 7, 2014 in Rocky Mount, NC. Born in Hagerstown, Maryland on February 29, 1940 he was the son of the late Russell Willett, Sr. and Elizabeth Palmer Willett. He was also preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Willett Taylor.
He graduated from Chevy Chase High School in June of 1960. Russell graduated with a degree in Steam Engineering in June of 1969 from Government of the District of Columbia. He also graduated from Maryland Drafting Institute in February of 1974 with a degree in Engineering Drafting Technology.
Russell was employed by Bechtel in Frederick, Maryland for fourteen years. He was employed with SAIC from 1989 until his retirement in 2005. He moved to Rocky Mount, NC in 2007. Russell was a member of the Ruritan Club for twenty-nine years, twenty-two years with Jefferson Maryland Ruritan Club and seven years at West Edgecombe Ruritan Club in Rocky Mount, NC. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 2007. Russell previously attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Maryland. He was a lifetime member in the Lutheran faith.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Marie Willett of Annandale, Virginia; his best friend and companion for eight years, Frances Constans of the home. He is also survived by his sister, Lois Willett Bowden of Dayton, Ohio; granddaughter Shannan Willett Winkler and her husband, Josh of Annandale, Virginia; nephew Danny Taylor of Baltimore, Maryland. He is also survived by his two loving dogs, Fluffy and Gabby.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Rocky Mount, NC, Nash Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
There will be a memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 3:00pm. The family will meet with friends and relatives in Resurrection Hall immediately following the service for light refreshments.
