Richard Allen "Tump" Tanner

March 21, 1965 ~ July 19, 2024

ROCKY MOUNT – Richard Allen “Tump” Tanner, age 59, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 21, 1965, he was the son of the late Ernest Gray Tanner and Alice Virginia Williams Tanner. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ernest “Tee” Tanner. Tump was a man of many talents who could do anything. He had a deep love for fishing, music, and hot rods. His prized collection of cars included a '74 Nova SS, a '69 Chevelle, a '72 El Camino, and an '84 Monte Carlo SS. Tump was a painter by trade, known for his artistry and craftsmanship. Through his work, he built numerous strong and lasting relationships with his clients. Above all, Tump cherished his family and friends, who enriched his life beyond measure. Tump is survived by his sons, Jason Tanner and wife, Beverly, Matthew Tanner and wife, Hannah, Markus Tanner and wife, Haley, and Johnny Boe and wife, Ashley; daughter, Lianne Stone and husband, Chester; his grandchildren, Hunter, Hailey, Jasper, Jacob, Harley, Timothy, Jett, Will, Leighton, and Brilliance; his sister, Sandra “Jo” Martin and husband, Keith; his nieces, Brandy Ward and Kelly Warholic; and his great-nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Tump’s Life will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Bill Harper officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home until 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tump’s memory to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 11796, Charlotte, NC 28220.     A: I met Tump working for Robert Henson. We quickly became friends. Though I didn’t know at that time he knew my mother’s family. We built probably 100 houses or so. He thought me alot about manhood. Work ethic. How to to paint hold a brush. He will be forever missed! I love you Tump! See you in heaven brother,
