ROCKY MOUNT - Richard Allen Carr, age 35, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017. Born in Nash County, NC on August 30, 1981, he was the son of John Henry Carr and Ann Parker Carr. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Carr; paternal grandparents, James and Beulah Carr; maternal grandfather, Richard Parker; and step-maternal grandfather, Westray Bunn.
Known by most as “Allen”, he was a 2009 graduate of East Carolina University. Allen had a way of bringing a smile to everyones face. His loud personality made him the “fun guy” in any group. His circle of inner friends knew him to be larger than life, yet a teddy bear at heart. Allen would give the shirt off of his back to help a friend in need. The fondest memories of Allen would be his love for Nascar, as no matter what was going on any particular Sunday, watching the races was to Allen a priority. Outside of Nascar, he enjoyed playing a round of golf, sharing stories with his friends, or simply enjoying a day out fishing. A loving son, caring brother, and a friend to everyone, Allen will be dearly missed by all.
Allen leaves behind to cherish his memory, mother, Ann Parker Carr; and sister, Claire Carr Gulley and husband, Larry Gulley. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Barbara Bunn; uncle, Al Wordsworth; niece, Hayes Gulley; and nephew, Lawson Gulley.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Dr. Ronn McCracken officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service.

It’s hard to say good bye. Lots of vivid memories of Allen. In Claire’s words that boy was something special in the hearts of so many. Tears can not wash away the loss, but God’s strength helps us to carry on. He will not be forgotten. Love to you Ann, Claire, Mrs. Bunn and all his family. Mrs. A
For Allen’s family, I am one of his neighbors. I did not know him well, but we always exchanged hellos when I was walking my dog and I saw him outside. I am so very sorry. I hope he will rest in peace and his family find comfort knowing he touched many liives with a smile and kindness. Kathy Ingram

I want to send my deepest sympathy to the family of Richard Allen Carr. The bible tells us we can gain comfort from God, especially during times of sorrow. We pray to our heavenly father for help to cope with the sorrow felt from the death of a loved one. By prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. Philippians 46 May you find comfort by relying on our heavenly father and learning more about the blessings of God’s kingdom. Local ministry volunteer
