Ralph Hooks Sykes

Ralph Hooks Sykes celebrated life until age 81. He passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012. A native of Nash County, he was born April 2, 1930, the son of the late Samuel Edmond Sykes and Tempie Vaughan Sykes. Ralph lived his life to the fullest traveling with his wife, dancing the night away, and offering help to those in need. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 61 years, Montie Pearl Sykes; son, Michael Ralph Sykes and wife Paula of Spring Hill, FL; two grandchildren, Teresa Kost and husband Greg of Pueblo, CO and Kimberly Dawn Brittingham and husband Jake of New Bern, NC; five great-grandchildren, Siera Kost, Annie Kost, and Gregory Kost, all of Pueblo, CO and Elijah Brittingham and Kaytlyn Brittingham, both of New Bern, NC; and also his sister, Jessie Reynolds and husband Eddie of Stedman, NC. He was preceded in death by his brother, S.E. Sykes, Jr; and two sisters, Tempie Appleton and Louise Weaver. The family will receive friends from 7:00pm to 8:30pm Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember Ralph will be held at 11:00am Thursday morning in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tim Lowry officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.   1. Pearl and family, let me say just how sorry I was to hear of your loss. I share in your grief and can understand what you are enduring. God has been with you all the way and He still is. Just call on Him because He is your closest friend.

  2. It makes me so sad to learn of your loss because I love you all so very much. I will miss seeing his smiling face and his teasing me over running to the mailbox in my pajamas as a little girl and many other childhood memories we shared! The two of you together were always an inspiration to me as to how a marriage should be……blissfully happy! I thank you now for the blessing you have been in my life.
