Paul David Whitley

Paul David Whitley, Jr., age 89, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015. He was born on July 27, 1925 to the late Paul David Whitley, Sr. and Ethel Joyner Whitley. He was predeceased in death by a daughter, Judy Carol Whitley Worrell and a brother, Charles Henry Whitley. Paul was born from the salt of the Earth on the Whitley Family Farm as many before him was for generations past dating back prior to the American Revolution. A tradition he was proud to carry the weight of, he believed in dedication, hard work and the commitment to family and faith. A peaceful man by nature and guided by principals, he ensured his family was provided with what they needed to succeed, and as his crops grew, his pride and love for his family did so also. A dedicated member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, Paul knew that through faith and love in the Lord was key to all. He especially enjoyed attending his Sunday School Classes as it emphasized to him the importance of faith. He would at times enjoy throwing a fishing line in one of his ponds as a way to relax and collect his thoughts. Being a man of the soil, he enjoyed the peacefulness of tending to his garden and his overall knowledge of creation and creativity enabled him to make many of material things he could either give to others or enjoy for himself. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Bertha Bradshaw Whitley of Rocky Mount; his son, Paul Richard Whitley, Sr.; his son-in-law, Ken Worrell of Bedford, TX; his grandchildren, Alicia Worrell Probasco and her husband Scott, Jennifer Worrell and Peter Mack, Sara Worrell Berg and her husband Charles, Erin Whitley Hawks and her husband Michael, and Paul Richard Whitley, Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Caroline, Catherine, and Mary Claire Probasco and Macklin Berg. Also surviving are his two sisters, Vivian Whitley Viverette and Mary Louise Whitley Daughtridge, both of Rocky Mount; his niece, Theresa Barnhill and his nephew, Bruce Dawes. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Robin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00am at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, 3732 Sunset Ave, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or the Community Home Care and Hospice 3124 Zebulon Rd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.   2. I remember working on the farm with my uncle Paul David every summer and swimming and fishing in the pond. Going to the big house of grandma and grandpa Whitley sitting on the breezeway porch reading comic books and playing checkers with Ricky. Paul David working on the M Farmall tractor.I have so many fond memorys I love you so much Bert and Paul David.
