Oaklyn Ellarose West

NASHVILLE - Oaklyn Ellarose West, aged 22 days, passed away in her family's arms at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, on August 20, 2022. After struggling with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, she passed into the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Fred Hanson; and paternal great-grandmother, Joan Goldsborough. Oaklyn's mom once said that when she looked into Oaklyn's eyes, it felt as if Oaklyn could see into her soul. Others that held and embraced Oaklyn experienced the same feeling as she gazed into their eyes. Though Oaklyn's journey was short, she was not alone. Many people who never laid eyes on her personally, other than pictures and videos, loved her deeply. Prayers poured into Heaven for her to be miraculously healed. One family friend said, "Continuing to pray and request prayers from others. We are bombarding Heaven with our petitions for healing for this special gift from God!" Another said, "Praying. It's amazing how someone so little has impacted so many lives in such a short time." Oaklyn's family believes that each of her 22 days here with us was a miracle. Oaklyn's brief life testifies of hope in the miraculous. Oaklyn is in the arms of Jesus today. She indeed received her miraculous healing… and we all praise Jesus for this! God's faithfulness and grace were magnificently displayed in Oaklyn, and we are forever thankful to God for her life. Oaklyn is survived by her parents, Abbigail Bunn and Tristen West; her maternal grandmother, Carrie Bunn; her paternal grandparents, Tommy West, Jr. and Christmas West; her maternal great-grandparents, Johnny Bunn and Linda English; her paternal great-grandparents, Tommie and Connie West and David Goldsborough; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Celebration of Oaklyn's Life will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Travis Crocker officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home until 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Oaklyn's memory to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
