Norma Pittman Wiggs

March 14, 1934 ~ November 29, 2021

GREENSBORO - Norma Jean Pittman Wiggs, age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021 surrounded by her family. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 14, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Grover Lee Pittman and Mildred Pittman Vess. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Frank Vess. Norma was a 1952 graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High and a 1955 graduate of Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh. She worked as a registered nurse in the newborn nursery of Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston for over 20 years and also taught childbirth classes at Lenoir Community College. Norma was active in Westminster and Queen Street United Methodist Churches during her Kinston years. Also, a Den Mother of Cub Scout Troop 392 in Kinston and active in Moppet Children's Theatre and the Kinston High School Drama Club. Norma's primary interest was spending time with her husband at the North Carolina Coast. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and the rest of family and friends whenever she could. Norma's caring focus was always making sure her family and friends were doing well. Norma is survived by her husband of 66 years, Carroll Belk Wiggs of Greensboro; her son, Steven Belk Wiggs (Mary-Ann) of Pine Knoll Shores; her daughter, Susan Wiggs English (Warren) of Greensboro; her grandchildren, Michael Andrew Wiggs (Jackie) of Raleigh, Gregory Scott Wiggs (Kristen) of Leland, Andrew James English of Greensboro, and Jackson Belk English of Greensboro; her great-grandchild, Giovanni Scott Wiggs; her step-great-grandchildren, Krista Hutchins and Evyan Brown; her brothers, Rodney Lee Pittman (Melissa) of Charlotte and Marshall Dean Pittman (Sandy) of Greensboro; her niece, Lee Anna Pittman; her nephews, Dean Marshall Pittman (Jocelin), Chris Pittman, and Loren Pittman (Karen); her great-nieces, Claire Pittman, Leah Pittman, and Mary-Katherine Cepko; her cousins; and her special friend, Mary-Alice Wiggs of Cary. A Memorial Graveside Service to celebrate Norma's life will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Norma's memory to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515 or Cone Health Caring for Each Other Fund, 1200 N.   1. So sorry for your loss, Susan. Herb and I so enjoyed getting to know your parents when you and Warren lived across the street from us in Summerfield. You had a wonderful mother who could not have done more for your family. The fact that my daughter married George Mitchell Harris III whose parents were good friends of your parents brought us more together. Ironically Herb had both legs amputated later in life.
