Nellie Cobb White

October 6, 1919 ~ June 3, 2010

Nellie Cobb White, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend died June 3, 2010 at Wake Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Beaufort County, October 6, 1919 to Sudie Abrams Cobb and Daniel Cobb. In 1939, she married Glen E. White, to whom she was a devoted wife and helpmate for fifty-four years. He died in 1993. Mother viewed her primary roles as those of wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, but she found great satisfaction in being of service to her church. Mother had an unwavering faith in God and she was a dedicated member of Ridgecrest Worship Center where she at one time served as a Sunday School teacher and chairperson of the Benevolence Committee. In recent years her participation was severely limited by advanced macular degeneration, but she was a faithful attendant as long as she could drive. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, J. Ray White and Maylon White, both of Rocky Mount; and a daughter Sue Walston and husband Mike of Sevierville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Amelia Kirkland and husband Patrick of Carthage, N.C., Michael L. Walston and Christopher White Walston and wife Kristina of Sevierville; and four great-granddaughters, Erin Kirkland and Caroline Kirkland of Carthage, and Lilly and Keyli Walston of Sevierville. She was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters and is survived by one sister, Mitchell C. Case of Fairview, N.C.; and much loved nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Hood and his nurse Susan for the years of care and kindness shown Mother. A special note of thanks too to Denise, Janice and Sumaya for all those magical moments on Friday morning. A service of Thanksgiving and Worship will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010, with Rev. David Whitley and Rev. Tommy Harvey officiating and Amelia Kirkland serving as scripture reader. Friends may call upon the family before the service from 1:00 to 1:50 pm in the Atrium Room of the funeral home. A committal service will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. So that others may live memorials may be made to the American Stroke Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas TX 75231 or to Ridgecrest Worship Center Building Fund, 1120 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount NC 27804.
