ROCKY MOUNT – Nancy Carrol Brown Pridgen, age 92, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on May 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Charles Dallas Brown and Lula Harrelson Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Al Joseph Pridgen Sr., and her sisters, Margaret Brown Blocker and Barbara Brown Norris.
Nancy graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1950 and attended Lees McRae College, where she developed a lifelong love of the mountains and apple butter. She was a lifelong member of Arlington Baptist Church, which she attended until failing health prevented her from doing so. Nancy was an avid bridge player and reader, going through stacks of books from Braswell Library. For years, Nancy enjoyed eating breakfast most weekdays with her husband and friends at Central Café. In her younger days, Nancy enjoyed membership in the Rocky Mount Junior Woman’s Club and was an active member of the PTA at West Edgecombe School. She loved flowers, crafts, and a big garden. Above all, Nancy was a homemaker who devoted her life to rearing her two sons.
Nancy is survived by her two sons, Al Joseph Pridgen Jr. and wife Patsy of Rocky Mount, and Charles Raymond Pridgen and wife Sandra of Rocky Mount. She also leaves to cherish her memory her five grandchildren; Darla Pridgen Bowles, Dare Pridgen Pfeifer, Paula Jo Pridgen, Morgan Elizabeth Pridgen, and Matthew Charles Pridgen. Nancy was “Nana” to five great-grandchildren as well: Riley Bowles, Sammy Bowles, Charlie Bowles, Jack Pfeifer, and Joseph Pfeifer.
