Mr. “A” W Anderson

September 15, 1935 ~ March 15, 2010

Robert (Bob, "Mr. A") Wilkins Anderson ROCKY MOUNT - Robert (Bob, "Mr A") W. Anderson, passed away Monday, March 15, 2010. He was born September 15, 1935 in Roxboro, NC, the only son of the late Robert Andrew Anderson and Ola Frances Wilkins Anderson. He was predeceased by granddaughter Brianna Michelle Turner and sister-in-law Joanna Lynn Keith. Bob graduated from Roxboro High School and went on to serve two years in the U.S. Army. He later attended Campbell University, East Carolina Business School and Carolina School of Pharmacy. He worked at Broad Street Drug and Eckerds Drug Store in Durham. He met his wife Judy while at Broad Street Drug and married in September 1962. He joined Ayerst Laboratories and moved to Rocky Mount in 1966. For a short while he was in real estate with John High Co. He and other partners started TOBO Sounds Music Store located in Fairview Shopping Center. As a member of a local band he played rhythm guitar. Eventually he became "Mr A" in a joint venture with his wife Judy caring for after school kids. His love of sports started many young athletes in soccer, football and softball, many of whom went on to excel in these sports. He continued working behind the scene after heart surgery, maintaining the vans, handling computers and keeping supplies for the Englewood After School Child Care and filling in for absent drivers up to last week. His main love for years, outside his family, was golf, spending many hours with friends at Birchwood Golf Club. After back surgery, golf took a back seat and fishing became a primary activity with Judy on Saturday or Sunday afternoons at Gaston Lake. He often took his grandchildren on many fishing and swimming trips. Family was important and so were friends. He will be missed by all who shared their lives with him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judith K. (Judy or "Mrs. A") Anderson; daughter, Sandra Anderson Turner (husband Scott Turner); son, Robert Mikel Anderson (wife Amanda Hudson Anderson); grandchildren, Christian Turner, Samantha and Wesley Anderson; mother-in-law Katherine S. Summerlin of the home; sister-in-law Dianne K. Goude (husband Jimmy Goude) of Dorchester, SC; nephews Bryan and Geoffrey Call of Charleston, SC; and many friends and relatives and all the afterschool children and parents whose lives he touched over the last twenty years. A service to celebrate the life of Bob ("Mr A") will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Englewood United Methodist Church with Rev. David Benson and Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. 3. Mr.A touched so many lives over the years. Judy, yours and Bob’s love and respect for each other was always present. The love you two have for these children is second to none, these children now and those from years gone by are a special group and always knew they were loved by MrA & MrsA. Bob will be missed by many and I for one am proud to say I was a part of your ‘A’ team. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. With love, Teresa, Al, Jimmy and Anna Catherine Bullard

  4. Mrs. A, Mandy and family, Words cannot express how sorry I was to hear about Mr. A. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. Cling to the Lord to find the comfort you need to move forward. Mrs. A, you have truly been missed while being away from the children to support Mr. A during this struggle. We love you all and are truly blessed to have you as a part of our lives. Susie, Melvin and Bradley Rice

  5. Mrs A – You and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers over the past few days. I was saddened and frankly shocked to hear about Mr. A. I just spoke with him by phone a few weeks ago. He, like you and the rest of your family are truly special. You can be proud that he touched the lives of so many over the years and made a real difference in our community. May you find comfort knowing that he is now in the loving arms of God. Bill, Jan and Landon Norwood

  6. Judy and family, Tommy and I have many fond memories of times spent with you and Bob at Birchwood Country Club. Have missed seeing you over the last few years. Our prayers are with you. Tommy and Barbara Griffin

  7. Mrs A – We all loved Mr. A! Three of my 4 children were with you both for a number of years. You both have been such a blessing to our family. We will always have such great memories of Mr A playing on the playground with the kids – mostly the boys – when Drew was there. Thank you both for loving my children, teaching them to love & respect others and for helping them to grow into the people they are today! Mr. A touched the lives of hundreds of families over the years. He will be greatly missed! You and your family are in our thoughts & prayers. Kitty, Carrie, Drew, Leigh & Mary Katherine Sammons
