Moses Tony Hughes
Mr. Moses Tony Hughes, age 63, of Halifax, NC, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Born June 8, 1947 in Nash County, NC, he was a son of the late Moses Rayford and Jewel Graham Murray Hughes.
A disabled veteran, Mr. Hughes served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked in drywall and was a member of The Church of God in Elm City, NC. He was a loving husband, father, and "Pappy". He loved net fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening, and fruit trees.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Elizabeth Surles Hughes; two daughters, Elizabeth Darlene Hughes of Halifax, NC and Julie Hughes Perry and her husband, Marty, of Bunn, NC; a son, Anthony Scott Hughes of Halifax, NC; a sister, Carol Hughes Howell of Spring Hope, NC; two brothers, Dennis Hughes and his wife, Sylvia Denise, of Nashville, NC and James Earl Hughes of Clinton, NC; and a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Shearin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Hughes Wester and Sylvia Jean Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the Chapel of Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. The Rev. Damian Bogoni, Rev. Earl Hughes, and Rev. Melvin McGriff will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

He loved Sunday School and talking about the Word of God. He would get real excited and tear up….He loved the Lord and he loved others with Christ’s love. I miss him.
