Montie Pearl Bardin Sykes

February 18, 1933 ~ December 31, 2022

ROCKY MOUNT – Montie Pearl Bardin Sykes, known to most of her friends and family as Pearl, age 89, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Born in Wilson County, NC on February 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Bardin and Montie Pearl Bardin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Hooks Sykes; as well as her seven brothers and sisters. Montie worked at the Rocky Mount Cord Company for 17 years until she left to help her husband with Sykes’ Radio and TV. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was proud of all of her “children” as she called them. You could always count on a homecooked meal when you came to visit along with one of her famous desserts. She will be greatly missed, however, we find peace in knowing she is in the hands of our Savior and Lord. Montie is survived by her son, Michael Ralph Sykes and wife, Paula, of Rocky Mount, NC; two grandchildren, Teresa Kost and husband, Greg, of New Braunfels, TX and Kimberly Dawn Brittingham and husband, Jake, of Newport, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Siera Kost of Green Valley, AZ, Annie Kost, and Gregory Kost Jr., both of New Braunfels, TX; Brandi Kost and Skyler Kost both of Owensboro, KY and Elijah Brittingham and wife Kassie and Kaytlyn Brittingham, all of Newport, NC; one great-great grandchild, Elena Brittingham. A Funeral Service to celebrate Montie’s life will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. The family would like to say a special thanks to all the friends and family that have checked in on her over the years since her husband’s passing and in the recent couple of years during her battle with dementia. A very special thank you to her neighbor Judy Adams who she referred to as her “angel”. And a very close friend, Kitty Langley, whom she treasured, which preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Montie’s memory to Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Rd, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
