Mildred Hardison Dudley

Mildred Virginia Hardison Dudley, 90, of Rocky Mount, NC died on Monday, June 21, 2010. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Earl Dudley; parents, Jacob Hardison and Lala Cunningham Hardison; sisters, Marie Craft, Addie Gray, Mytle Woodard, Evelyn Parisher; and brother, Ray Hardison. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Dudley; son, David Dudley and wife Laura; grandson, Harrison Dudley and wife Leigh-Ann; granddaughter, Anna Dudley; sisters, Grace Shelton, Bessie Fields and Doris Craft; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred was always very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her so dearly. Mildred was also an excellent seamstress and knitter. Many homes in Rocky Mount and surrounding towns contain drapes, cornices and bedspreads that were sewn by her and installed by her husband Jasper. Her family and friends have scarves, sweaters and snowmen that were lovingly knit by her. Mildred was also a wonderful cook. She enjoyed preparing special meals for her family and tried to use fresh vegetables from her sisters' gardens whenever possible. Canning and freezing vegetables were important to Mildred and she always had a full freezer. The family wishes to thank the staff at Autumn Care of Nash for their love and care during her two years there. The nurses and aides were and are very special to her and her family. A funeral service to remember Mildred will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will follow the service. A graveside service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Snow Hill Cemetery in Snow Hill, NC.
