ROCKY MOUNT – Michael Lamont "Mike" Wallace, age 75, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family and loved ones on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on May 4, 1948, he was the son of the late William Earl Wallace and Winifred Aleene Pridgen Wallace. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Michael Todd Wallace.
Mike was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served overseas in both Korea and Vietnam before his retirement from the Air Force Reserves as a Crew Chief following 20 years of service. Additionally, he had retired from Sprint Telephone Company, formally Carolina Telephone Company, as a cable maintenance technician and had owned and operated his own business, Hammer Down Flag Car Service. Mike was a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church and especially loved his church family. In his younger years he enjoyed riding motorcycles. Blessed with an outgoing and welcoming personality, Mike never met a stranger and was admired for always being there for others around him in need of a helping hand. A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many, Mike will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra Godwin Wallace; his daughters, Dana Michele Wallace Edwards and Jennifer Lynn Wallace Gardner (Chris); his grandchildren, Garrett Gardner, Carsyn Edwards, Grant Gardner, Gavin Edwards, and Griffin Gardner; his brother, Joseph Earl "Joe" Wallace (Debbie); his “adopted” son, Dan Drapeau; and several nephews and nieces.

Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Dr. CJ. Cauble officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mill Branch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
The family would like to say a special acknowledgement to Andre, Dale, Jerry, and Jamie for all their love, support, and care for Mike during the last few weeks. It did not go unnoticed.
