Melvin Jackson King

Melvin Jackson King, age 79, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Born in Currituck County on July 16, 1932, he was the son of the late William Arthur King and Maggie Wilcox King. He was also preceded in death by his son, Stanley Ray King and grandson, Jackson Braswell King.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Frances Aycock King; daughters, Nancy King Weaver and husband James; Beverly King Parrish and husband Jeff, both of Nashville; son, Dennis Floyd King of Nashville; grandchildren, Stan, Jason, Jamie, Caroline, Graceann, Bailey, Watson and Brooke; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Garrett, Andy and Maggie. He is also survived by two brothers, Linwood King and Bunnie King; and three sisters, Annie Tisdale, Candy Harris, and Louise Leith.
Melvin was a longtime member of York United Methodist Church. He enjoyed growing his garden and sharing with everyone. He was an accomplished tobacco farmer and loved hunting and fishing. He absolutely loved his bluegrass music, which he shared with everyone while cooking some good barbeque or grilling chicken. His love of God and family was the most important things in his life.
A service to remember Melvin will be held at 7:00pm Thursday, March 01, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. A committal service will be held at 2:00pm Friday afternoon, March 02, 2012 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
