Mellie L. Goolsby Jones Lewis

ROCKY MOUNT - Mellie L. Goolsby Jones Lewis, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Born in Augusta, GA on August 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Tom Watson Goolsby and Maud May Cawley Goolsby. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Jones and Stephen Lewis; brother, Thomas W. Goolsby; and sister, Betty Schachtee. Mellie worked at Rocky Mount Mills and retired from Abbott Lab. After her retirement, she volunteered at Community Hospital. Mellie was a charter member of Englewood Baptist Church and was a very active member. When she could no longer attend church, she read her Bible daily. Mellie will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and faithful visitors. Mellie leaves behind to cherish her memory, brother, Bill Goolsby and wife, Dianne, of West Palm Beach, FL; a very special niece, Patricia Dawes, who was like a daughter and was a devoted and loving caregiver for many years; a niece, Sylvia Uhrin and several other nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Rev. Ricky Sori officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home.
