MaryElla Pittman Joyner

Rocky Mount - Mary Ella Pittman Joyner, 78, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2011. She was born in Wilson County, November 17, 1932 to the late Bennie Battle Pittman and Gladys Edwards Pittman. Mrs. Joyner worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. She was a member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church for over 50 years where she had served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. She was also Past District President of the Extension Homemakers Club of North Carolina. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, L.C. Joyner; daughters, Molly Marleene Joyner and Fiance, Paul Mickler of Greensboro, Nell Tharrington and husband Randy of Rocky Mount; two grandchildren, Hope Tharrington and Fiance, Eric Choplin of Greenville and Scott Tharrington of Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 13, 2011 beginning at 2:00 p.m in the sanctuary of West Edgecombe Baptist Church followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the church chapel. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to West Edgecombe Baptist Church, 13821 N.C. Highway 43N, Rocky Mount, NC 27801.
