Mary Brake Strickland
August 23, 1918 ~ December 3, 2015
On Thursday, December 3, 2015, our “Precious Mama”, Mary Brake Strickland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Mama was 97 years old, born August 23, 1918, to the late Willie G. Brake and Mary Jane Hill Brake, spent her life in Nash and Edgecombe Counties, and her full-time job was being a full-time “Mama” with her loving ways that has always been appreciated by her family. Mama became a member of Southside Baptist Church, May 21, 1957, and attended church until declining health. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Sidney Strickland, son Kenneth Ray “Pee Wee” Strickland, daughters-in-law, Linda Joyner Strickland and Johnette Bailey Strickland, sister, Lillie Brake Collie, and brother, John Brake. Survivors are Mary S. Medley, Frances S. and Charles Pollard, Sidney and Becky Strickland, Donnie Strickland and Sue Smith, grandsons are Johnathon, Sid, and Donald Strickland, great-grandchildren are Abbey, Maelee, Jonathon, Jr. and Samuel Strickland, sisters are Emma “Tibby” Williams and Elizabeth Landin, her brothers are Percy and Peggy Brake, Bill and Doris Brake and many thoughtful and caring nieces and nephews. To our extended family, Mamas dedicated nurses, Dorothy Young, Barbara Lynn, Linda Young and Shashanda Coley, we appreciate your many days and hours of love and special care provided to our Mama.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Rev. Joe Price officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 Noon to 1:45 PM prior to the service.

Hi my name is Kayla and I am a local bible teacher. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 258. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.
