Mary Bluma Sessoms Garrett

ROCKY MOUNT - Mary Bluma Sessoms Garrett, age 74, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Born in Nash County, NC on November 7, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Fred Sessoms and Myrtle Jackson Sessoms. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Garrett, Sr.; brother, Bert Sessoms; and sisters, Helen Townsend and Debbie Turner. Mary retired from Thompson Insurance Agency after 25 years of dedicated service. She touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered with love and kindness. A devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Mary will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten. Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons, Melvin Garrett and wife, Angela, of Rocky Mount; and Jeff Sallee of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Michelle Sallee of Spring Hope. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Phillip Sessoms; sister, Iris Sessoms; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Rev. Steve Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to a charity of ones choice.   4. Mary was my friend at Williford and Benvenue. We talked about our airfoce boyfriends in twelfth grade. I married that boyfriend, Mary was so smart and sweet. I am sadden to learn of her passing.
