Lila M. Lewis

Lila Mae Brantley-Lewis, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Born on July 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Preston Brantley and Aggie Bell Brantley. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Magdaline Brantley-Puckette and brother, Charles (Buddy) Brantley. Lila graduated from West Edgecombe High School in 1957. She enjoyed Volleyball and cheerleading during those early years. She worked for 20 years as a bank Teller with First Virginia Bank in Sterling, VA, and then for the State Employees Credit Union in Rocky Mount. She loved her family and friends, planting flowers and creating yard decor out of the most unlikely things, and a night out at the movies. Lila laughed often, sang silly songs loudly and off key, and danced her feet off like nobody was watching. She also greatly enjoyed playing Bingo at the Senior Center in Nashville. She had a personality larger than most, and she leaves a great void nobody else will ever fill in the hearts of her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Joy Lynn Johnson and husband, Gregg of Nashville, NC; grandchildren, Joseph Stillings, Ana Stillings, Lacey Awalt and Robert Johnson. Lila is survived by her sisters, Helen Perry of Rocky Mount, Mildred Saunders of Quinton, VA; Christine Swank of Huber Heights, OH, and by her brother, Paul Allen Brantley of Rocky Mount, NC. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 4:00pm. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services, 1130 North Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Please wear bright colors which she loved and come prepared to celebrate her life with love and laughter.   1. I am sorry about your loss because losing a love one bring much pain and sorrow. However, I look forward to a time when sorrow and pain will be of the past. According to Isaiah 258 it states death will be know more. Knowing this helps brings me closer to God at James 48 draw close to God and he will draw close to you.   2. She was visit Dad, sat the front porch & always had a sense of humor that had you laughing. Very caring, loving Aunt. She love her family! She will be truly missed.

  3. My memories . . . . We used to go to the Dairy Bar in Rocky Mount when I was little, she used me to flirt with the boys. She always drank Dr. Pepper, which was unusual because everyone in the family drank Coke, but she would put peanuts in her Dr. Pepper and I would copy her. My best memory was when I was her Flower Girl in her wedding. I felt so proud.

  4. So sorry to hear about Lila. I worked with her at the credit union. She was such fun to be around. She kept me laughing all the time. We went to some dances together and had a ball.

  6. Tootsie was a life long, dear friend of ours and we will miss her beyond words. The four of us are unable to attend her memorial service due to much illness, but all of her family is in our thoughts and prayers, and we love all of you very much.
