Kathleen “Kathie” Graham Hellings

SMITHFIELD - Kathleen "Kathie" Graham Hellings, age 82, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019. Born in Philadelphia, PA on November 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William Graham and Elizabeth Moore Graham. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Hellings; and brother, David Graham. Kathie was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Smithfield in 1971 with her husband and two children. She worked for many years at The Smithfield Herald. Kathie loved baking, shopping, traveling and helping others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed my all who knew her. Kathie leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Michael "Mick" Hellings and wife, Connie; daughter, Lisa Boykin and husband, Scott. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Courtney Boykin, Kaitlyn Boykin and Lindsey Stancil; great-grandsons, Tristyn and Landyn Wert; sisters, Elizabeth Towle and Nancy Grant; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Rocky Mount Bible Church, 5630 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 and other times at the home of Scott and Lisa Boykin. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Spring Arbor of Rocky Mount (memory care) and Nash Health Care System Hospice & Palliative Care for their dedicated care and support.   2. Kathie was such a good friend to Teresa and Evelyn. I’m glad to have gotten to know her on my visits. She was always so full of joy and kindness. She was always happy to reach out and help others. She was a wonderful person. I’m so sorry for your loss.

We are in Florida and unable to attend the memorial service, but we are thinking of you and remembering you all in our prayers as you grieve the loss of your mother and grandmother.   7. I was so sorry to learn of Kathie’s passing. She and Dick were wonderful neighbors, and they have both been sorely missed. Our sincerest sympathy to all of the Hellings family.

  8. kathie was a dear friend and co-worker at The Smithfield Herald. So sorry for your loss. She is resting at peace back with Dick. May God’s comforting arms be around the family at this time of loss.

  9. On behalf of the Girls High School class of June 1954, our sincere condolences. Kathe was a valued member and participant in ,Amy activities which she accomplished with talent and grace. We will be celebrating our 65th reunion in May and will miss her presence.

  10. From all of Kathy’s classmates in the 187th class of The Philadelphia High School for Girls, our sympathy to her family for their loss. We have many fond memories of Kathy.
