Joseph Rudolph Langston

Joseph Rudolph Langston, 82, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 surrounded by his family. Born in Nash County March 24, 1929, son of the late Oswin S. Langston and Dora Brown Langston. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Ola Mae Smith, Cora Lee Jenkins, and Margie Daniels; and brothers, Wade Langston, David Langston, and Alton Langston. Rudolph served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of North Rocky Mount Baptist Church and currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He worked at Rocky Mount Laundry and Dry Cleaners (now Clean Clean) with over 20 years of service and retired from Peoples Building Supply after working more than 10 years. Most people knew him from working at the Hot Dog Stand where he worked more than 30 years since the age of 14. Rudolph also was employed with Budget Rental transporting cars back and forth. Rudolph leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Betty Davenport Langston; daughters, Pamela Langston Cone and husband Douglas and Betty Ann Langston Waters and husband Scott, both of Rocky Mount; son, Joseph R. Langston II and wife Brigitte of Rocky Mount; six grandchildren, Beck Langston, Braden Langston, Jason Cone, Lindsey Cone, Ashley Waters, and Michael Waters. He is also survived by sisters, Louise Hackney and husband Thurman of Rocky Mount, and Esther Cahoon of Portsmouth, VA; and brother, Ray Langston and wife Shelva of Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends and relatives 12:30pm to 2:00pm Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A funeral service to remember Rudolph will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brandon Dees officiating. Burial will be at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
