Danny and I met in Junior High School. I played football with him over the next 4 years and against him in college. I have never met anyone who was a better pure athlete than Danny. He could do anything that involved a ball. I last saw Danny at my 50th high school reunion. He was already sick but you would never know it based on his upbeat attitude. We shared some memories. The one that comes to mind is the long run he made to beat Broughton. I had made a block and was under a pile of people and did not see the touchdown but I knew what had happened because of the cheers. Those were great times. The Blackbirds of that era were a direct outgrowth of the spectacular talent that Danny brought to all of us. He was the key we were to role players. I am thankful to have been a part of something that will never be equaled. God blessed all of us by putting us into Danny’s life and I am forever thankful. God rest his soul. John Alexander

Danny was just such a truly caring person. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to Myrlene and Bryan.
Danny was a good man…my dad Bryant Kennedy talked about watching him at Carolina play football…it’s what started my dad as a tarheel…he had season tickets to the football games for years and when I would take friends with me I would always point out the #10 Danny Talbot and tell them that’s my cousin on my Mama’s side…Edna Woodcock…one day when I was young daddy took me to a UNC game and after the game Danny gave me his chin strap…what a thrill for a kid…what a great legacy he is leaving…rest in peace
Danny took all of us on an unforgettable journey. How blessed we are to have known him. A friend to all of us…..then and now.

He is in heaven for sure. I will never forget him.

I only knew Danny for the short three years I spent at RM Jr. High but after all these years I remember the kind, talented young man he was then. So sorry to learn of his passing. I pray for peace for his family and friends that only God can give us at times such as this.

My heart goes out to Myrlene and the family. I played freshman basketball and baseball at UNC with DT, and went to the CWS in 1966, and I have kept up with him thru the years, including his battle with cancer. But, even as great an athlete and competitor that Danny was, the long-term memory of him is the quality values he had. He always had his feet on the ground, and really cared about other people. We have lost a great one. Mike Knowles

I’ll never forget his smile and all of the encouragement he gave me and his wife as we worked on the puzzle in the Cancer Center together! My thoughts and prayers of comfort and peace are with Mrs. Myrlene, their Son and family now and in the days to come (Matthew 54)
My first memories of Danny is when he and my Uncle, Danny Mears, played football for Rocky Mount High. Years later we reconnected when I was with my husband Mike attending Old Leaguers baseball events in Chapel Hill. It was always a joy to be with Danny and Myrlie. Danny showed us how to live and how to face a serious illness and our immortality. RIP my friend.
A truly Great individual. Very thankful to have known him. Sorrow and Peace to the Family!
My deepest sympathy to the family. Danny was a genuine person who had his Mama’s good looks and his Daddy’s gentle ways. We became friends when we were barely teenagers when Mr. Joe was the preacher at my Aunt and Uncle’s church at Holdens Cross Roads (and Mrs. Lena played the piano). Our friendship endured for all these years, and whenever, I was lucky enough to run into him at a Carolina football game or a Ram’s Club function, it was like we had seen each other yesterday. I will miss knowing that he is in this world. RIP, my old friend!

I worked with Danny for 15 years at McNeil Pharmaceutical. He was a dear friend and a Great Athlete both on and off the field. He will be dearly missed. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family. May God bless them.
Dear Myrlene and family, Danny was truly an inspiration and a blessing to us all! We will miss him so much! Praying for you all to have peace today and in the days to come. God bless you all. Dawn & Larry High FBC
Danny was always smiling, friendly and overall good person. Enjoyed being classmate from RM Wilson through graduation at RM Senior High. He was always in line ahead of me when we went to assembly, etc. When our paths crossed since high school, he was always the same. He will be greatly missed. Thought and prayers to all of his family.
Comments and blessings for growing up with Danny Talbott. Danny and I met in the gym at Rocky Mount Wilson Junior High. At least one good basketball player was on the team. After coming to see me play (or not play) my father recognized the athletic ability of Danny, even in the 8th grade. Dad encouraged Jim Hickey (Dad had coached with Jim at Hampden Sydney) to come look at Danny. Thus began the relationship between UNC and Danny. After having the pleasure of growing up with Danny and watching his accomplishments, championships, and baseball career I moved to Washington DC. I moved in with my aunt, who happened to live in the same complex as Vince Lombardi. I had drinks with Vince on occasion and he thought as much of Danny as his own children. Vince once made the comment to me that Danny would not be his 1st or 2nd string quarterback but always his 3rd. It is a shame that Vince passed away early. God Bless the Talbott family.

Thanks for the Memories Danny!!
RIP Old Leaguer
We are in the Class of 63 that we all knew that Danny was the leader… It took more than just him to make up The Blackbird but any time sports were mention the question was asked is this the class that Danny Talbott was in…. Yep the CHAMPS.. He was a great guy to be around in the Good Ol Days.. My mom worked in a local sporting good store that saw all those team members and coaches back in the 60’s . She would talk about what a leader Danny was. Then as life has it that nasty C word shows up but he fought to the very end … Thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family ..…. You fought a good fight Danny and thanks for all the great games you and the other guys did for Rocky Mount Senior High.. So many memories Rest in peace

To Danny’s family It was always a pleasure knowing and seeing Danny through out the years, in and around Rocky Mount and Wilson. Danny was such a Great person…He will be greatly missed…May the Love of Jesus Christ be with all of his family, during this time and always.
I’ll never forget the incredible Danny Talbott. He and his great team mates beat our Charlotte Myers Park team 3 times in 1961, 1962 (playoffs). He kicked field goals, punted 40 plus yards, played great defense and was one of best all american quarterbacks in the country. Wow! Watched him lead his team to state Championship in Greensboro. Watched him win state championship in Charlotte when he pitched with cast on his left arm…he hit 2 doubles also. Watched him at Carolina with his good buddy and old rival Jeff Beaver. Watched him become all-american baseball player at UNC. Watched him win tennis tournaments where he would switch hands to receive serve. Danny was an incredible athlete. Rocky Mount is such a special place and Danny represented his beloved hometown so well. I feel blessed to gotten to know Danny and Myrlene better over the last 10 years. What a life!!!
Praying for all of you during this time. God will sustain you in your grief. Danny was an outstanding man. He is at peace in the arms of Jesus. I will always remember his smile and always his kind presence. Peace be with you.
MR.TALBOTT ,WAS A SPECIAL PERSON.HE WAS ALLWAYS SO FULL OF LAUGHTER WHEN HE CAME TO SERVICE DR.JE BRYANT OFFICE SUPPILES.ALSO THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM IN CRACKER BARREL HE PAID FOR MY LUNCH,HE WAS A NICE MAN.THE FAMILY HAVE MY PRAYERS.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Myrlene and Bryan at this time. I hired and trained Danny many years ago when he came to work at Johnson and Johnson. He was a great salesman, extremely well liked by the doctors and pharmacists, and all who knew him. He was a good friend to our family. The world was a better place because of him. Wyman and Mary Cockman
So sorry for your loss
Edward and I send our deepest sympathy to Danny’s family. We were lucky enough to have Danny as a neighbor for many years and have fond memories of spending time with him and his family during those years. Danny was a great athlete, but he was an even more wonderful person. Even though we didn’t see him often once the family moved away, the memories remain. One memory I have that reflects the kind of person he was came when we had been neighbors for several years. We were sitting in his living room watching a ball game. I mentioned that I had just learned that he had been given a really big UNC athletic award (I can’t remember its name now, but it was the biggest UNC gives) and that I was impressed. He acted like he didn’t know what to say for a few seconds before he passed it off as no big deal. I also enjoyed hearing him talk about playing for Cal Ripkin, Sr., manager in the Oriole minor leagues at that time and his memories of Cal, Jr. as a small boy always around pestering the players to toss him a ball or pitch to him. Cal Ripkin, Jr. was my mother’s favorite Oriole and she loved hearing those stories I got from Danny.
RIP old friend!
Myrlene, I just heard on the news about Danny. Sympathy and prayers to you. Earth’s loss is heavens gain.
I had the privilege of working with Danny at Johnson & Johnson. I was truly blessed to have him as a mentor and friend. He taught me many things, but one thing that has stayed with me is his strong work ethic, professionalism, and his advice not to pick up wooden nickels, I still don’t know what that really means but sounds like good advice. He will be greatly missed!
The Lord blessed Rocky Mount with a true treasure, Danny Talbott. A man of integrity and character.
Danny Talbott and I were sort of friends in 1962 High School, the blackbirds scored 13-0 on Fayetteville Bulldogs first half, I changed game plan to feature Greensboro spread offense which kept Danny’s team scoreless in 2nd half, we had a freshman kicker who missed both extra points, and game ended 13-12! Later, I was VP of Harris Cutrell on North Church, Danny would come by once a week, usually with a tennis racquet in hand. We never needed a rep in ENC, but he would have been ideal. I called him about a year or so ago, he was beginning to suffer then, I miss him in spirit he was a Giant in Eastern NC football and won many awards. Although I went to Wake Forest both my Brother played for Dooley at UNC, and my dau and son went to Carolina. No regrets, just wished I’d have spoken to Danny before the last lap…Danny Townsend of Fayetteville, now in High Point (15 years…also 75) 336 882 5677
Danny was someone we all looked up to. A kind and humble All-American
Dear family, I was saddened to learn of Danny’s passing. I was quarterback for the Raleigh Caps in 1961, and remember playing against him in his junior year at Rocky Mount. I continued to follow him during his collegiate and professional years in sports. I admired his many accomplishments at these levels. I remember seeing him during some of his visits to UNCW when Bryan was a student, where I am a part time faculty member. I sincerely hope that your faith, and the love of family and friends will help you during this difficult time. Sincerely, Larry Honeycutt Leland, NC
Danny Talbot was The Natural and the Roy Hobbs of his time. I was just a kid in those days but my brother Butch Clayton played with Danny, John Alexander, Wrennie Pitt, Bob Sides, Tom Parrish and so many more during that magical run their senior year at RMHS. I think the whole town traveled to those games. Butch shared a memory of Danny with me this week. We were undersized and few in number compared to the big schools we played, but we had Danny. He made us all better. If he had not brought so much attention to our team, the rest of us would not likely have been recruited. I always felt my scholarship was a result of his long shadow. As long as I knew him, I never heard him utter an unkind word to anyone. Danny was probably my first sports hero along with my brother Butch. RIP #10.

Myrlene Rick and I send condolences to you and your family. Danny was such a great man! Please know we are thinking of you and know you have beautiful memories for comfort. Linda and Rick
I met Danny in 1960 at the Pavillion on Atlantic Beach, NC and we spent the summer doing what boys did back then! Work during the day and dance with the girls at night! He knew who he was, he had a deep sense of humor and reeked of confidence! All in all he was very stable and down to earth as well as deserving of his allcoades! I just heard and know I’m late but being a friend and his biggest admirer…You will be missed Danny! Raymond Hassell
