John Ira Fisher

Rocky Mount - John Ira Fisher, age 82, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016. Born in Nash County, NC on August 30, 1933, he was the son of the late Jerry Willis Fisher and Mattie Pearl Harper. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Patsy Faye Batton Fisher; and brothers, Clemon Fisher and Earl Fisher. A long-time member of Arlington Baptist Church, John was very active in his church. John was a wonderful neighbor, noted for his gardening, and sharing his produce with family and friends. He was also known for recycling aluminum cans - including numerous people who would save their cans especially for him. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, John cherished every moment he spent with his family. Many memories can be spoken of John, the love shared between him and his wife Patsy, while Patsy was her son Willis's best friend, John was Willis's dad, and was always there for his other family members and friends. Family gatherings always brought bright smiles to both John and Patsy as they enjoyed watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren live, learn, and play. John will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. John leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Willis Lee Fisher and wife, Audrey, of Beaufort, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren, Daniel Lee Fisher and wife, Nicki; Megan Tess Brown and husband, Shane; Alan Scott Freeman; and Michael Thomas and wife, Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Brooke Fisher, Caleb Fisher; Kaylee Fisher and Samuel Fisher; several nieces and nephews; and sister, Flossie Winstead of Nashville, NC. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount with the Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.   1. I count it a blessing for my kids to have known such a hardworking and loving great Grandfather. Even in his 80’s, he traveled over 2 hours to visit several times a month. Granddaddy has always made it his goal to seek a need within his family and meet that need whether it was food, clothing, money or just fun goodies for the kids. His love was truly felt in his unselfish actions. We will greatly miss his weekly visists but are truly blessed to have such wonderful memories of him.
