Jo Lynn Hicks Brake

WILSON - Jo Lynn (Jody) Hicks Brake, a most humble and loving person, devoted mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 20, 2022. She was born in Rocky Mount, NC, on April 30, 1955, the second child of the late Alphonso Hicks, Jr. and Jeannine Brake Hicks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Francis Brake and Anna Summer Brake, and a brother-in-law, Archie Thornton (Skip) Thompson, Jr. Jody attended West Edgecombe School and graduated from Rocky Mount Academy. After high school, she attended Gardner-Webb College and received her nursing degree from Edgecombe Community College. Jody worked as an operating room nurse at Nash General Hospital for many years and completed her nursing career while working with Alzheimer's patients in nursing facilities. Loving and helping others always gave Jody great comfort and joy. Left to cherish her memory are Jody's three children, Ellen Rainy Summer Brake, Richard Ralph Brake IV (Jamie), and Liberty Laura Ann Brake, two grandchildren, Richard Ralph Brake V and Madelyn Amy-Grace Brake, the father of her children, Richard Ralph Brake III, three siblings, Elizabeth Hicks Thompson, Alphonso Hicks III (Barbara), James Benfield Hicks (Lisa), and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26th, at the Brake Family Cemetery, which is located at the corner of Cokey Road and Calhoun Road in Edgecombe County. The family thanks the staff at Wilson Assisted Living who took care of Jody. Many thanks also go out to family and friends, especially Lucy Turner, who extended their love and support to Jody throughout her efforts to be healthy.
