Greenville - Jeanette Scott McAlister, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 8, 2015. Born in Greenville, SC on September 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Truman Jay Scott and Flora Jane Hall Scott. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth McAlister; her sister, Betty Jean Scott Rich; and her brother, Elmer Scott.
Known for her unending kindness and generosity, Jeanette expressed throughout her life a manner of compassion to those around her, both to her family and to strangers. Having been raised through the height of the Great Depression, she valued the strength of what family unity and faith can offer. She expressed and taught these values to others, whether it was through her career or through her church. Jeanette was a sales associate for Belk Tyler in downtown Rocky Mount for over 20 years, a career that allowed her to share her vibrant personality with many. After marrying her husband, Kenneth, together they joined Calvary Baptist Church in 1957, a community in which together they raised their son, Gary. Jeanette always put others first and to the many young children she taught as a Sunday school teacher, she instilled in them this very same trait.
Jeanette leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Gary McAlister of Greenville, NC; her grandchildren, Oom and Ou Saengthian; her sisters, Edna Scott Campbell of Macon, GA, Beatrice Scott Smith of Greenville, SC and Shirley Scott Carter of Greenville, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 505 S. Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, Gary, through the coming days. May God bless you and your family and her friends who will miss her presence, as you learn a new life’s routine without her here to share in it. Jane Wrenn
I enjoyed working with Mrs. McAlister at Belk’s may years ago when she worked on second floor. A lot of ladies depended on her expertise in clothing. She was always so pleasant and kind to everyone she met. I know you will miss her terribly. Your family will be in my prayers. Janice Johnson Dickens
Precious memories of such a wonderful, Christian lady! She was my Sunday School and G.A. Leader 50+ years ago. Heaven has truly gained another angel. Sharon Dew Outlaw
