Jean Barnes Williams

ROCKY MOUNT - Jean Barnes Williams, age 86, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on June 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late George Ralph Barnes and Mamie "Estelle" Joyner Barnes. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Martha Ann Barnes Tyson. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family. She enjoyed having coffee on the porch and watching the hummingbirds. Above all, Jean's most cherished memories are of the Christmas gatherings she hosted at her home for over thirty years. She touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered with love and kindness. Jean enjoyed the beauty in caring for her garden, the same care she gave to her family through the years. Jean is survived by her husband of 69 years, William Taylor Williams; her daughter, Vicki Williams Rivenbark of Wilmington; her son, William Taylor Williams, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Clayton; her grandchildren, Christy Hedgepeth and her husband, Albert, Brian Williams and Will Rivenbark; her great grandchild, Mary Hedgepath; her siblings, Margaret Barnes Holland, G. W. Barnes, Mary Lucy Barnes Minshew and her husband, David, Joyce Faye Barnes Minshew and her husband, Bobby, Olivia "Libby" Barnes Faroux and her husband, Larry, Doris Barnes Voller, Samuel Barnes and his wife, Christine, Sherril Barnes Enroughy, Brenda Barnes Radford and her husband, Mike, and Kathy Barnes Watson and her husband, Mike; and many nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Elder Steve Creech and Elder Danny Carroll officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting the need for social distancing and wearing of masks due to health concerns faced around our nation at this time.
