Mrs. Janet Adderine Rooks Hamilton, age 75, of Nashville, NC, died Saturday, December 18, 2010. Born September 27, 1935 in Nash County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Mott and Mary Whitley Rooks.
Mrs. Hamilton's love of accounting and book work began with her work at Hamilton Wholesale and Grocery. It was also there that she met the true love of her life, her husband Robert.
She later opened her own accounting office and built it over the course of nearly five decades into one of the area's most preferred accounting offices. She joined the North Carolina Society of Accountants in 1971. Sitting on various boards and committees, she became an officer in 1982 and served as president in 1985 until 1986.
One of her other loves was horses. She served as an officer for the Rocky Mount Saddle Club from 1967 until it disbanded in the 1990's. She and her daughters also showed horses in the Coastal Plain Horse Show Circuit for many years.
She was active in the Lion's Club in the 1960's, being named Lioness of the year in 1968 and served as the president of the auxiliary from 1967 until 1968. She was also a dedicated volunteer at Nash General Hospital for many years.
But, above all else, the true highlight of her life was her grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than spending time with them.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Lee Hamilton; a daughter, Jane Hamilton Bass and her husband, Jody, of Spring Hope, NC; a sister, Lucille Rooks Hyde and her husband, Hubert, of Nashville, NC; a brother, Jesse Mott Rooks, Jr. and his wife, Frances, of Rocky Mount, NC; a brother-in-law, James Adron Hamilton of Rocky Mount, NC; a sister-in-law, Brenda Kay Rooks; and three grandchildren, Olivia Leigh Bass, Carrie Grace Bass, and Matthew Hamilton Bass, all of Spring Hope, NC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Hamilton Ferraro; a sister, Lula Rooks Rose and her husband, Albert Rose; and two brothers, Andrew Benjamin Rooks and his wife, Annie Mae Lewis Rooks and Jimmie Carlton Rooks.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
Janet will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. She was a great leader in everything she set out to do. We shared many telephone calls at tax time sharing tax changes, etc. Yes we all in the accounting profession will miss her greatly. May God wrap his arms around you as family and you continue to remember the great person that Janet was and all that she stood for.
I am grateful for the professionalism and positive attitude of Mrs. Janet Hamilton in handling accounting duties for my family. I am saddened by her passing and I pray that the family will find peace during this time.
Janet was truly a very classy lady. Her wonderful spirit and attitude toward life made it a pleasure working with her on numerous boards and committees in NCSA. She will surely be missed. Prayers and condolences to the family at this hour.
