Rocky Mount - Betty Jane Tippette Raper, age 75, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016. Born in Halifax County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Dodson Tippette and Agnes Chichester Parrish. She was also preceded in death by her step father, Edward Parrish; sister, Priscilla Tippette Fisher of Florence, SC, and, brother Donovan (Don) Powell Tippette of Rocky Mount, NC.
Jane loved horses of all types, but particularly Tennessee Walking horses and miniature horses of which she raised over the years.
Jane leaves behind her son, Gregg Raper (Lori); daughter, Pam Jenkins (Wayne); grandchildren, Thomas Raper (Kristin), Taylor Raper (Jessica), Christopher Jenkins (Jennifer) and Tyler Jenkins; great grandchildren, Thomas Mack Raper, Caleb Raper, Sophia Raper, Julianna Raper, Kelsey Jenkins, Carter Jenkins, Brayden Jenkins and numerous nieces and nephews. Jane also leaves behind to cherish her memory her half-brother, William Dodson Tippette (Martha) of Garner, NC; sister-in-law, Linda Barnes Tippette of Rocky Mount, NC. Jane had many special friends who loved and cared for her very much.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 3:30 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Reverend Billy Webb officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Janes name to Duke Homecare and Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704

I easily remember Betty Jane’s love of horses as we were growing up in the Ringwood area, actually Aurelian Springs area for me. Tippette family reunions were held and my first memory of one was at Uncle William’s home with lots of home cooked food placed on a very large flat bed trailer parked under the pine trees in his yard.
