James T. Ellen

Enfield - James T. Ellen, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Born in Halifax County, NC on November 4, 1922, he was the son of the late Thomas Robert Ellen and Grace Anderson Ellen. James was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Braswell Ellen and his sister, Agnes Ellen Safy. James was one of the few remaining World War II veterans, serving in the United States Coast Guard for five years during the war. In the many years following, he enjoyed his time staying in touch with his shipmates, and along with his wife Nancy attending many reunions and get-togethers. Early on in life and after returning to Enfield, he and Nancy became members of Enfield Baptist Church and remained since. Inseparable, together they volunteered for Meals on Wheels as well as being involved in the local Red Cross. Throughout his life he made many lasting friendships, especially through Halifax Electric where he retired after a lifetime of service. James leaves behind to cherish his memory his brother Albert Ellen of Wilson; his four nieces, Angela Ellen Tripp of Cary, Lynn Copeland of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jo Teachey of Rocky Mount and Liz Harris of Rocky Mount; and two nephews, Craig Ellen of Kinston and Scot Ellen of San Diego, CA. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield. A visitation with the family will follow the service.
