Nashville - James Oliver Vick, age 93, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on May 8, 1928, he was the son of the late James D. Vick and Reaby T. Vick. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Carla Pridgen and his brother-in-law, Bill Langley.
James graduated from Oak Level School. He went to Chicago, IL where he attended RCA School of Technology. James later opened his own TV shop, Vick's Radio & TV Service in Rocky Mount. He loved fixing electronics and interacting with people. He lived ever day with joy and laughter. He loved the ocean, going deep sea fishing, and catching that "big one". Most of all he loved his family and he was a devoted family man. He was extremely proud of his wife, children, granddaughter, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. James was very instrumental in all aspects of their lives. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
James is survived by his wife of 72 years, Joyce J. Vick of Nashville; his daughter, Tanya Lowrie (David) of Nashville; his son, Oliver "Keith" Vick of Nashville; his great-grandchildren, Misty Pridgen, Nikki Wells, Andrew Pridgen, Amber Holland, Cody Barefoot and Dustin Barefoot; his great great-grandchildren, Noah Wells, Oakland Wells, Landon Hecox, Ayva Hecox and Margot Holland; his sisters, Debbie Vick (Rick) and Patricia Langley; his brothers, Alton Vick (Sandy) and Clinton Vick (Nancy); and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service to celebrate James's life will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Carlton Cockrell officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
During the continued COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting the need for social distancing and the wearing of masks due to health concerns faced around our nation at this time.
