James Curtis Ramsey, 81, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Tarboro. He was born on January 22, 1929 in Nash County, son of the late James Mayo Ramsey and Annie Todd Ramsey. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Ramsey Daniel, brother, Charles Mayo Ramsey, Sr. and nephew, Charles "Chuck" Mayo Ramsey, Jr.
Curtis graduated from Benvenue High School and then followed by serving his country in the 160th Infantry of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from CSX Railroad after 40 years of service. He enjoyed participating and spending time with friends at his Senior Bowling League, Model Railroaders Organization in Wilson, Woodmen of the World, Senior Mall Walkers and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. He served every office at Mill Street Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church and was instrumental in the organizing and building of the New Vision Family Worship Center where he served as Head Deacon of the church.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 51 years, Barbara Taylor Ramsey; sister, Betty Jane Wood and seven nieces and nephews. Curtis will be also be missed by his loving and faithful dog, Rusty.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 7-8:30 pm on Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home of Betty Wood of Rocky Mount. A service to honor Curtis will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 04, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Howard Harrell officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his niece, Anita D. Cooke, and nephew, Gary Mayo Daniel, Phillip Shearin, Don Rackley Sr.,and Donald Rackley Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Bissette.
