Rocky Mount - Jackie W. Spears, age 86, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Born in Halifax County, NC on April 16, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Russell L. Whitehead and Margaret Bradley Whitehead. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Spears; and her sister, Margie McMullen Davis. Jackie, or “Queen” as she was known by, will be most remembered for her daily gathering with friends at Bryans Cheesesteak where shed share stories and gossip with her morning breakfast group. A social butterfly she was, Jackie never met a stranger and was always eager to engage in good conversation with anyone, whether it was during her many shopping trips to the boutiques in Rocky Mount or just being out and about. A woman of good faith, she was a long time member of Edgemont Baptist Church. She worked for years as a seamstress and she later retired from Barcalounger. A dear mother and friend, she will be missed by all who knew her. Jackie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Richard C. Spears, Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Nokesville, VA; her three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. She is also survived by one brother, Lowell Thomas Whitehead of Danbury, CT and one nephew, Jerry Ray McMullen of Little River, SC. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at an 11:00am. Committal at Pineview Cemetery with the Reverend David McBryar officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made in Jackies memory to a charity of ones choosing. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services, 1130 N.
