ROCKY MOUNT - Imogene "Jean" Bryant Tyson, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Nash County on June 10, 1933 to the late Redmond Herbert Bryant and Bettie Moore Manning Bryant. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Willie Charles Tyson. They shared a love of family and friends and enjoyed camping and traveling together. Jean was member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church where she regularly worshipped and served until her health declined. Prior to retirement she served as secretary treasurer of Benvenue Elementary School for 25 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Barnes and husband, Donnie, and her son Charles "Rusty" Tyson and wife, Lori; granddaughters: Kristi Ray and husband, Keegan, Meaghan Tyson, and Alyson Barnes; great-granddaughter: Finley Ray; sisters: Gladys Collie and Willa Mae Joyner; brother: Herbert Bryant and wife, Dorothy.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends and family at the home of her daughter, Cindy Barnes, 313 Alexander Drive.
The family would like to thank Breckenridge Retirement Center for their tender love and care of their mother over the past 12 years. Also, many thanks to everyone at Nash Hospice who managed her care over the last difficult years.
