We send our love and sincere sympathy to Mrs. Johnson (Lou), Mike, Doris and Thomas at this difficult time. Mr. Johnson was a very unique individual who loved the Lord and his family. He worked hard throughout his life accomplishing much for the kingdom of God while making a wonderful contribution to mankind. He was a generous man with a great sense of humor. It is always a pleasure to hear a Hursel story from our dear friends, Mike, Doris and Thomas. We are in prayer for all of you at this time and are consoled by Jesus’ words in Matthew 5 4, Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Steve and Martha C.
Mrs. Johnson, Mike and family, We are so sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of hearing Mr. Johnson singing his heart out in church when I was the pianist. Whitakers and Gethsemane will miss him. Sincerely, June Gay Carlisle and The Gay Family
Lou, Mike, Darby, and Thomas, Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you as we know you all loved Hursel dearly. He and Lou always made us feel extra special at Gethsemane, and both the church and town of Whitakers will never be the same without him. We love you all! Paul and Melissa Drake
Mike, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My fondness memories of your dad are of the basketball games at North Edgecombe. He loved his basketball and was totally involved in the games. He would get so involved he would walk out on the court if he did like a call by the referee. Your family are in my prayers.
Mike and Doris We are so sorry for your loss. We are so glad we got to spend some time with him before Christmas . I think he enjoyed being around the potatoe grading business again. Joel and Jean
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My aunt, Frances Garris (Duck) always thought highly of Mr. Hursel. Jenny Taylor Luther
Mike, sorry for the loss of your father Larry McAdams
Hursel was a great friend to all. I can remember looking forward to the sweet potatoes he always delivered prior to the holidays. He sold us our first home. Whitakers was a booming town while he was mayor because he was constantly researching ways to enhance it. He was a prominent businessman and always gave one hundred ten percent to all his endeavors, working long hours; and even if you caught him at a standstill, the wheels in his head were always turning planning his next move. Hursel will be greatly missed by all. God bless his family.
How I love this man. Monday morning around 500 am, I was at a hospital in Miami at the bed side of a woman about to have open heart surgery. When I asked her how she was doing, she said, I’m great. My doctor is better on the front nine. The ability to laugh at the famous Hursel Johnson Front nine or back nine story really helped her stay calm before entering surgery, even though she never met Hursel. Most people will have no idea what I’m talking about, but the Johnson family will. Joy and I will be praying for you all.

The Bible promises that those who have died will be resurrected to a paradise earth. (John 528,29) Communicate your feeling, Kind words will cheer you up. (Prov. 1225) Keeping your feeling bottled up inside may make it difficult for you to deal with your grief. On the other hand, discussing your feelings with someone you trust will open the way for you to receive kind words of encouragement when you need it most. God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, & death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. (Rev. 214) Talk to God. Likely, you will feel much better after you pour out your heart to Jehovah God in prayer. (Ps. 628) This is not simply a feel-good therapy. In prayer, you are appealing to the God of all comfort, who comfort us in all our tribulation. (2 Cor. 13,4) By these following scriptures. Ps. 3418; Ps. 10217; Ps. 1473; Isaiah 258. It is my hope that some of these will help you, as they did for me. giving, hope to see our loved ones once again
