Helen Parker Barnes

February 17, 1938 ~ December 13, 2015

Rocky Mount - Helen Parker Barnes, age 77, passed away to eternity on Sunday, December 13, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Nash County, NC on February 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late (R.S.) Rachel S. Parker and Eula Viverette Parker. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, V. Eugene Barnes. Helen attended West Edgecombe Baptist Church when able. She retired in 1995 after 20 years in banking. She was a member of the West Edgecombe Ruritanettes. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, reading, and traveling but most of all she enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Helen was a loving Mother and Grandmother (Mema) and will be missed greatly. Helen leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Vicki Barnes Raper and her husband, Steve Raper, of Nashville; her son, Anthony (Tony) Barnes and his wife, Sandy Carpenter Barnes, of Grimesland; her three grandchildren, Crystal Raper Shearin and her husband, Daniel Shearin, of Rocky Mount; Travis Sterling Barnes and his wife, Katie Knupp Barnes, of Tampa, FL; and Mallory Renee Barnes of Grimesland; and her brother Horace Parker and his wife, Mary Lynn Parker, of Rocky Mount. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Rev. Allen Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Visitation with the family will be begin at 12:00 Noon prior to the service.
